More Sim Names

This is a file that mainly adds more names for sims, pets, and various other groups to get randomly. It works for CAS and sims randomly generated in game, along with some things you can name in game. It's two big files internally, CAS and game, and it can't be broken down (sims and pets and servos and familiars and etc. are all in the one file). There are also a few names removed from the game's list.
The goal is NOT to have every name ever on the list. My goals were pronounceable names (by me, at least, which means someone who speaks English and some French, with a few random words thrown in from other languages) and variety.
I didn't go the route some people go of completely removing non-English name lists/replacing them with English ones. Instead I picked over lists of names to find ones that (I think) I can pronounce. More work, but worth it, in my opinion.
In addition, I added the non-English names (the lists of non-English names that are used in an English language game) to CAS, so you're more likely to find yourself, your family, and your friends there. I didn't do that with all languages, just the ones that are included in the English game, because I was already working with those lists. To balance that out, I had to add the regular name lists multiple times, because the other names were overwhelming it.
For games in languages other than English, my names have been added to the existing name lists, where one exists (some things just seem to use the English list for most languages).
What's Included
(You can skip the bullet points if you don't care about the list details)
- Regular names that are supposed to be used by most sims in game (you're more likely to see these if you don't have a pack that adds other human name lists)
- Female, Male, and Last names
- Some game names are removed.
- Then I looked at the non-English language lists and added some from those, if I like them.
- Then I added a lot of extra names.
- The CAS name list
- I started with the names that ended up on the regular name list.
- Then I added names from the other human name lists. Because everyone should be able to find themselves and their families and friends in CAS.
- The numbers don't add up, but that's because some names were already in the regular list or a previous human name list, and I didn't add them again. The numbers are the numbers of new names added.
- Indian names (City Living)
- Female, Male, and Last names
- Some game names are removed.
- Many names got added.
- The names that got added were chosen from lists of names used in India, as far as I can tell. They include names that appear to be Western names. I don't know if that's because they are also Indian names, because Indian parents sometimes use Western names, or some combination of the two (I think probably this).
- Islander names (Island Living)
- Female, Male, and Last names
- A very few names were removed.
- Many names got added.
- Names that were chosen are names that are used in Polynesia -- the broader definition of Polynesia, since the narrower definition excludes Hawai'i, and a lot of Island Living takes inspiration from there.
- I didn't use names with letters that aren't used in standard English. I suspect some names had non-standard letters replaced with similar looking standard ones. I did include names that include an ʻokina, but because there were about eight variations on it, they all (I think) got switched out for an apostrophe. Which isn't correct, but prevents excessive duplicates, and is the closest my keyboard can produce--even copying a correct version, I still ended up with an apostrophe when I pasted it in my spreadsheet.
- Important: an ʻokina represents a glottal stop. This is when you stop between syllables, like between the I's in Hawai'i and in the middle of Uh-oh. It's not used like an English apostrophe, which is typically used for possession or represents a missing letter that we speak through : I've got John's hat. You ignore an apostrophe, you pronounce an ʻokina.
- Japanese names (City Living and Snowy Escape)
- Female, Male, and Last names
- A few names were removed.
- Many names got added.
- Names that were chosen are names that are used in Japan, I think. They're transliterated into English. Sometimes it's hard for me to tell if it's an English name (or some other language) spelled as close as it can be in Japanese and then transliterated back.
- I didn't use names with macrons (lines over the letters). Some names had versions with and without macrons, and I'm told they're variations of the same name.
- Latin names (Jungle Adventure)
- Female, Male, and Last names
- A few names were removed.
- Many names got added.
- Names that were chosen are names that are used in Latin America (from Mexico to South America). Mostly Spanish and Portuguese names, I think, with names of various other origins mixed in, including Indigenous American (let me know if there's a more appropriate name for that please ), Italian, maybe some Dutch, and I'm positive there's some French or French influence, although I don't know the origin of that.
- From what I can tell, if there's an accented letter, you should emphasize that syllable. For some names, I can't tell the correct pronunciations, because the same spelling of the same name would be pronounced differently in different countries, and sometimes in the same country. So if I can pronounce it somehow , it's valid for the list. What I can say seems to be mostly universal is that H is silent (on its own at least; Th seems to be T, but Ch is either Ch or Sh, depending on language).
- There's a relatively high number of double first names. Last names are tricker. Research tells me that a lot of the time, a child gets their father's paternal last name followed by their mother's paternal last name. That doesn't work in TS4 unless you're naming the children yourself, so single last names it is. That's a game limitation -- not that they can't have a double last name, but that it will be inherited as is and so doesn't make sense in this context.
- Moroccan names (City Living)
- Names that were chosen are names that are used in Morocco. There are both Arabic and non-Arabic names on my list, with some Berber/Amazigh and/or Jewish names, and some that I can't say where they originate (I have no idea how English words got on there in a country with laws that require names to be Moroccan in nature, but there are a few).
- Native American names (Horse Ranch)
- Last names are last names. They're ones used by Native Americans, First Nations people, Metis, and Inuit people. Mostly English/French/Spanish/etc. or made to sound and look like they are, or names that people either kept or reclaimed. The point is, they're real. I won't be naming a sports team after them, but real people will have a chance of finding themselves or their family or friends.
- First names are mostly also just names. Mostly English/French/Spanish/etc., with some from lists that are suggestions for writers by people who are able to know what should not be available to outsiders (I think), and some that were specifically suggested or requested. There are Anishinaabe names, some of which are from a list for writers, and some of which are chosen from https://ojibwe.lib.umn.edu/. And there are Cherokee names to honour historic Chiefs.
- Southeast Asian names (For Rent)
- South East Asian names are names used in in South East Asia, where I can find them. They don't match real naming practices in most places, which are many and varied, but they're what I can do within the limitations of the game. Especially last names, which simply do not exist in multiple places, at least from what I could find.
- Cat and dog names (Cats & Dogs)
- Female and Male first names only (they have no last names by default)
- Some names are removed.
- I checked the non-English language lists and added some from those, if I like them.
- Then I added a lot of extra names. Some are human names, some are more traditional pet names, and some are meant to be funny. Some are from the game but inspired by what people name their pets, such as celebrity names.
- Some names were also suggested for this list, and most got included.

You can see the full list here.
Other Info
This will conflict with any other name list--ones that add or alter sim names. It doesn't conflict with mods that affect object animals only (I have another mod for that), and it doesn't conflict with Kuttoe's Townie Demographics or Home Regions, but if you use Townie Demographics, Kuttoe adds extra name lists, so you won't only have names from this mod.
Note that if a sim is generated with a name list that's not the normal one (say, Japanese), when they have a baby, the baby will use the normal one. The name lists only get used for the initial generation of the sim.
Also note that there's no way to tell the game to use names that should go together. The game will pull from one list, but it could be any name on that list. There's also no way to weight the names, so it's completely random.
Both of these notes are just how the game works. There's no way to change it that I know of, and I don't know that I'd want to if I could.
PLEASE let me know if:
- Something shows up as a black box because I accidentally included a special character that's not supported by the game.
- I accidentally included something extremely inappropriate. I looked at every single name, but I know I missed some references, and there are probably more that I didn't know were references (or not even references, just explicitly inappropriate). Please let me know if you spot anything bad. Don't assume I knew and let it stay there; I probably didn't. This includes things that I don't realize are racist, things I don't realize are insults either in general or to whoever has the name, things I don't realize are NSFW, etc.
- Something gets caught by the gallery filter. I need to know the exact name, not just 'something in this household,' sorry. Again, I removed anything that I saw that would likely get caught, but the filter includes things I'd never think of, and things that are deliberately misspelled, and things in languages other than English (which is a good thing, but hard for me to catch), and things that are part of other things (coincidental letter order that ends up being inappropriate out of context).
- (They block some sim names they created.)
- Any other problems.
If possible, let me know on discord, where it will be much easier to gather the needed information. https://discord.gg/8MJMuz6Wmk
I don't have any sources to credit (except the dictionary I used to get some of the Anishinaabe names https://ojibwe.lib.umn.edu/), because I got names from all over the place--literally dozens of tabs open at a time for each individual list--and a lot of names came from multiple places, since they're real names, for the most part. I deliberately didn't go to just one place for anything, because I wanted variety and because I didn't want to just rip the names from someone's site. And some of it I just typed in myself, or in some cases made up myself.
