Settlement Builds: The Military Quarter

After figuring out on paper how I wanted to handle the monetary requirements in order to progress from Settlement to Hamlet, I realized that I was still missing two buildings: The Barracks and T he Almshouse.

I had a bit of free time this week, so I got both taken care of and then some! First, we'll see the Military Quarter , which houses the Barracks for the Men-at-Arms, the Training Field , the Bathhouse and (eventually) the Prison Tower. Yes, this is more than is required, but if you're gonna go for it, why not have some fun?

The entire walled Military complex sits on a hill just outside the Shire.

The goal was to create a set of buildings that fell somewhere between simplicity and luxury. Peasants will not be welcome here, but the middling to upper classes will, and while the purpose of being here is to train and learn, I also want it to be a pleasant environment for everyone, and not an entirely spartan existence. I know that objects exist that allow Sims with high-level skill points to be able to teach those skills to other Sims, so I plan to use that here to pass on skills like Charisma in addition to the physical training. I'll create a Master-of-Arms as well as maybe three single Men-at-Arms to occupy the lot to start, but plan on sending some of the Gentry and Noble sons here when they become YA to train for the Knighthood as well, so I am leaving empty beds for that purpose.

Master-of-Arms bedchamber.

Next up is the Training Grounds lot. Pretty self-explanatory, but this is where our Men-at-Arms will come to gain that important Body Skill. It's essentially a gym :) There are some amazing period objects to be found for gainig Body skill points, so I look forward to seeing my Knights-in-training here practicing their swordplay and running through that Obstacle Course!

And after a day of hard training, what could be better than a trip the Bathhouse? Nothing. I mean, I want to go there myself RIGHT NOW.
