Autumn Quarter: Year One: The Pullets

[After feeling extremely overwhelmed when I realized how many gameplay pictures had accumulated during my time with the Bells , and then taking an entire day to sort and post them properly, I've decided to switch up the way I post stuff. I have since been dropping interesting gameplay as it happens on my Tumblr, as it's much easier to just post several pictures at once and write a quick blurb and go back to my game. I'll continue to post roundups here, and this will be my go-to place when I have deep thoughts, or ramblings or whatever brain farts I feel need to be shared :)

So, with that, lets recap the Pullets! This won't be a five-part epic like the story of the Bells, I'll just touch on my favorite parts of their overall story. My gameplay time tends to be a bit limited, so I am actively trying to just take shots of stuff that I really love, rather than trying to Ansel Adams every moment.

To start with, this was my first time playing a farming family that raises animals. I've always been unsure as to how financially viable such a venture would be in the Sims. But the Pullets will breed poultry, by god! And this is their starter farm!

The chicken, ducks and geese are so amazing well done. Another wonderful set from PBK.

I won't lie. I ALWAYS avoid large families in the Sims games, because the more Sims I have to corral, the more frustrated I become. So I couldn't tell you that I was super excited to get started with playing these guys. They did seem to have pretty unique personalities when I saw them around town, though, so I was looking forward to that part.

Jean and Gretel are utter lovebirds:

And ACR works amazingly well...

Yes, they woke a sleeping child to ask him to leave so they could Woohoo.

The family is poor, poor as dirt. Like all peasants, they start with $5 to their names. They are alloted startup funds to buy their farm supplies as well as some market tables and such, but after that, 5 buckeroonies. This hasn't really been a problem with other peasant families in the past, but I've also never played a peasant family this size...I struggled at first to find a balance for all of them.

Milo passed out completely from exhaustion on the first day and spent the night there because I couldn't wake him up. I felt terrible.

The farm was slow to start, I had to wait for the chickens to lay in order to sell eggs, obviously, so I was worried about bringing in enough money to pay taxes at the end of the Quarter. This meant that other in the family needed to find outside jobs to help with the bills.

I sent Hilde and Gretel to the Chapel of Eostre (where the settlement job board is) to get them both jobs as Domestic Servants. They'll work long hours for little pay, but every bit counts.

Skip forward a couple of days and Jean was finally able to collect some eggs and get started with selling all that he could spare:

I truly did not have time to micromanage the business with this family, so I opted for an automatic cash register that just deducts funds as customers leave the market area with their goods. This felt like something a farmer's storefront in a close community would have anyway, a nice little Honor System.

In the meantime, if you can recall, when we left the Bells, I had been toying with the idea that since Peter Bell was obviously into Eloise Pullet , that maybe seeing if a match could be made there would be a fun experiment. Eloise is a member of the largest and poorest family in the settlement of Dallùbach to date. She's also a Knowledge Sim, though, which made me groan when I rolled it, because she won't have access to ANY Knowledge items as a peasant and is ensured a red Apspiration Meter for most of her life. Her choices? Marry into a class which allows education (Merchant and up) or enter the Sisterhood of the Blue Lady and have access to the learning tools at the Abbey. Well, Dallùbach doesn't have an Abbey yet, so her only option is marriage. But rules also state that one cannot marry more than one level above or below their current class, so what to do?! Well, the point of all this rambling is that Peter Bell is well poised to be able to buy his way out of Yeomanry and into the Merchant Class before he finishes his Adult life, which is another reason why he is probably the most eligible bachelor in town.

So we knew that Peter liked Eloise, but what of her feelings? I don't want to force anything for her. She's young and may have other options in the future if she really didn't get along with Peter. It's funny to note that quite a few people around town dislike her, so she seems to be a bit of a prickly personality, lol.

One night, her Fun meter was deep in the red and, knowing that she wasn't allowed to do any of the things that she'd actually find fun, I sent her to the Green where she could at least play a game of chess to stimulate her mind.

It began to rain just as Peter came over to where she was. I decided to see how this would play out and sent her to greet him, which she did with a hug!

I started to become excited now, but let them chat a bit longer, at the ready to pull back before they got bored. But they became friends! So I had her "Express Admiration" of him, and he took it well! Then, with bated breath, I told her to Check Him Out. What followed next had me audibly screaming with joy.

I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER! This is such a good match and I am so happy that it actually came to fruition with very little nudging on my part. We'll take it slow from here; Peter needs to gain relationship with both of her parents, and she needs a dowry, but I am thrilled at the thought of one day seeing these two married and settled.
