Part 3: Essential Mods for Game Health
This is probably the area of thought that has occupied most of my actual game setup so far. I am super concerned about the health of my S2 game because, let's face it, there are so many ways that you can screw it up. This is Maxis we're talking about here.
Luckily, there are wonderful people all over the interwebs who make it easy to learn how not to eff up your experience too badly. I'll list some of the best and most useful guides that I've found so far! It's a bit of reading but really, it's worth it if you want to try and extend the life of your game for as long as possible. These will list a bunch of Mods (some of which I've already covered), so I won't rehash them.

I would suggest picking up both SimPE and Mootilda's Hood Checker as well. I use Hood Checker after every play session to repair the inevitable garbage that will occur over the course of playing.
If anyone else knows of some good resources for avoiding bad things, please let me know and I'll add them to the list!
